Owners of a jewelry store in Guelph are dealing with another break-in.
The latest incident took place early Wednesday morning, around 2:35 a.m., at Silveri Jewellers on Paisley Road.
Security footage shows a Chevrolet Camaro with black bumpers pulling up to the store. A man got out from the passenger side, used a hammer to break the glass on the front door, and reached inside to unlock it.
Once inside, the suspect smashed two glass display cases and stole the items inside.
Paige Johnson, a representative for Silveri Jewellers, estimated that the thief took about 50 pieces of silver jewelry, some gold jewelry, and a few watches.
The suspect is described as a Black male with a medium build. He wore a black and white hoodie with lettering on the front, blue track pants, black and white running shoes, a black baseball cap, and a black face mask. Police say he was carrying a black duffel bag.
The security video did not capture the driver of the Camaro.
Scott Tracey from the Guelph Police Service said, “At this point, we don’t know if that was a male or a female. Unfortunately, we don’t have that person on video at this time.”
Silveri Jewellers is now considering stronger security measures.
“We have already done a lot to secure the store,” Johnson said. “But we may need to do more, including displaying less jewelry.”
