India’s gems and jewellery exports dropped by 4.62% in April, reaching USD 2,037.06 million, according to data from the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC). In the same month last year, exports were higher at USD 2,135.7 million.
The export of ‘Cut and Polished’ diamonds saw a decline of 6.12%, totaling USD 1,108.74 million in April, compared to USD 1,180.99 million in the previous year.
Gold jewellery shipments also fell by 5.41%, amounting to USD 684.51 million in April, down from USD 723.63 million during the same period last year.
Exports of ‘Polished Lab Grown Diamonds’ remained almost unchanged, with a slight growth of 0.41%, reaching USD 110.74 million, compared to USD 110.29 million in April of the previous year.
Silver jewellery exports dropped significantly by 12.03%, totaling USD 38.3 million.
On a positive note, exports of ‘Coloured Gemstones’ rose by 11.95%, reaching USD 27.76 million, up from USD 24.8 million in April of the previous year.
