The Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach is now showcasing Artists’ Jewelry: From Cubism to Pop – The Diane Venet Collection, a unique exhibition featuring more than 150 pieces of jewelry created by some of the most influential modern and contemporary artists. The show is open to the public until October 5, 2025.
The jewelry comes from the personal collection of Diane Venet, a Paris-born curator who has spent decades building relationships with artists such as Alexander Calder, Frank Stella, and Robert Rauschenberg. Through these friendships, she collected wearable works that blur the line between fine art and personal ornament.
“Jewelry has always been about expression,” Venet explains. “But in these pieces, the personal becomes universal.” Each item—whether a ring, necklace, brooch, or headpiece—reflects the artist’s unique vision and a story of creative collaboration.
The exhibition includes striking works by celebrated names such as Yayoi Kusama, Salvador Dalí, Man Ray, Pablo Picasso, Kiki Smith, Niki de Saint Phalle, and Rashid Johnson. Visitors can also see 60 related objects from the Norton’s own permanent collection.
Highlights include a gold “driving mask” by Man Ray, a vinyl-inspired ring by Yoko Ono engraved with “Imagine Peace,” and surreal enamel necklaces by Meret Oppenheim.
Adding to the sensory experience, a custom sound installation by Italian artist and composer Sheila Concari plays throughout the gallery, creating an immersive environment.
This rare exhibition invites visitors to see how great artists have used jewelry to express bold ideas on a small scale. These miniature masterpieces are not only adornments—they are powerful symbols of artistic identity and creative intimacy.
