A family-owned jewellery store has suffered a major robbery in a crime that resembles scenes from Hollywood films.
Thieves broke into a candy store next to the jewellery shop. They then crawled through the candy store, broke through a concrete wall, and accessed the jewellery store’s safe.
More than 2 million US dollars in cash and jewellery were stolen during the break-in.
Local media reports say the robbery lasted over three hours. The suspects used special tools to cut through concrete walls.
Jonathan Youssef and his 71-year-old father own the jewellery store, called 5 Star Jewelry and Watch Repair, in Simi Valley. They have run the business for 25 years.
Youssef told KABC, “They took everything we worked for. My dad’s retirement savings and my children’s future — we have to start all over again.”
He added, “I can’t replace their grandma’s diamonds or grandpa’s watch. These were treasures that meant a lot to our customers, many of whom we consider friends.”
Youssef described the criminals as skilled and well-organized. “This was not a random crime. It required careful planning and special expertise.”
The Simi Valley Police Department is actively investigating the case. Meanwhile, a GoFundMe page has been created to support the family as they recover from their losses.
