If you want to understand what Meghan Markle is feeling, look at her jewelry.
On her Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex wears a special necklace called the Sophie Lis Love Pendant. She first wore this piece in 2020 and has worn it several times since then.
The necklace is inspired by a phrase from 19th-century French poet Rosemonde Gérard called “The Eternal Song.” It has diamonds and rubies and features the words “+ qu’hier” and “- que demain.” This means, “I love you more today than yesterday but less than tomorrow.”
Sophie Lis, the London jeweler who designed the pendant, told Page Six Style that the necklace stands for “ever-growing love.” She added that when Meghan first wore it publicly, 10% of the sales from each pendant went to a dog charity called Wild at Heart, which Lis supports. The charity is based in Notting Hill.
Meghan Markle, 43, has chosen Sophie Lis’ jewelry for important moments in her life. For example, she wore a pair of Lis’ Fallen Star Hoop Earrings on her last day as a working royal in March 2020.
These earrings look like two North Stars and are meant to protect the wearer from harm, according to Lis.
“Meghan liked our brand from the very beginning,” Lis said. “She found out about us just before moving to the US, but she bought her pieces herself. There was no gifting involved.”
Lis said she is grateful for Meghan’s support because the stories behind each jewelry piece are meaningful. The Fallen Star Earrings, for example, are designed to offer guidance and direction. “It’s a nice thought to ‘follow the star,’” she said.
Other fans of the star-shaped earrings include Princess Eugenie and actress Abigail Spencer, who is a longtime friend of Meghan Markle.
Sophie Lis draws her jewelry ideas from nature. She creates pieces inspired by the sun, moon, and stars.
Recently, Lis introduced a new collection of sparkling mushroom earrings and pendants.
“These pieces bring happiness and nod to the psychedelic ’60s,” she explained. “The Mushroom Collection celebrates the power of nature and captures healing and well-being.”
Lis was inspired by her friend Jess Clark, who runs a mushroom supplement company called Mother Made. She said the jewelry helps bring the idea of mushrooms to life.
Interestingly, singer Ellie Goulding recently launched her own mushroom supplement company called Everystate, putting Lis in good company.
