The Vishrambaug police have registered a case against a jewellery shop employee for stealing gold jewellery valued at ₹4.58 crore. The theft happened between April 1 and May 26 at Neelkanth Jewellers in Narayan Peth. The complaint was filed on June 1, and an investigation is underway.
The accused has been identified as 35-year-old Pratik Nagarkar from Sutar Dhara locality in Kothrud. The complaint was made by Nitin Erappa Dange, 37, who works as the manager at the jewellery shop.
Police said Nagarkar was responsible for the counters selling rings, coins, and wedding bands. Sub-inspector Manoj Barure stated, “We are reviewing CCTV footage and expect to arrest the accused soon.”
According to the complaint, Nagarkar stole 4,689 grams of 24-carat gold. This included 180 gold rings weighing 2,262 grams, valued at about ₹2.21 crore, and 94 gold coins weighing 2,426 grams, valued at around ₹2.37 crore.
The police have registered the case under sections 318(4), 316(4), and 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
