Swarovski, the well-known Austrian crystal maker, is set to return to Washington, D.C., with a new store in Georgetown. The company has signed a five-year lease for a retail space at 1234 Wisconsin Avenue NW, with plans to open the location in late 2025.
The new store will take over a 950-square-foot space formerly occupied by luxury lingerie and swimwear brand Wolford, which shut down in April. The closure was part of a broader series of store shutdowns by Wolford’s parent company.
The Georgetown property is owned by EastBanc and Acadia Realty Trust. The building houses several other retail shops with small footprints, including Clare V, Van Leeuwen Ice Cream, Blank Street Coffee, and Outerknown.
Philippe Lanier, principal at EastBanc, said the arrival of Swarovski has personal significance.
“As someone with Austrian roots, it’s especially meaningful to welcome this iconic brand founded in Austria and renowned around the world to our nation’s capital,” Lanier said in a statement.
Swarovski produces a wide range of crystal products, including jewelry, watches, home décor, and eyewear. The brand also sells lab-grown diamonds under the Swarovski name.
The company last operated a D.C. location at Union Station, which closed in 2020. Swarovski continues to run a store at the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City in Arlington, Virginia.
Founded in the 1890s, Swarovski has grown into a global retail brand with about 2,300 stores worldwide. Around 800 of those are located in the United States.
