The Jose Hess Design Awards have announced the panel of judges for this year’s competition.
The awards, a nonprofit organization established in 2022, honor the legacy of Jose Hess. Hess was an award-winning jewelry designer and a graduate of the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). He passed away in February 2021.
The theme for the 2025 awards is “Radiance.” It celebrates timeless beauty in fine jewelry. The works reflect lasting brilliance, emotion, and artistry.
The judging panel includes five experts. They bring a blend of heritage, innovation, and influence from across the jewelry industry, according to the organization.
The 2025 judges are:
- Susan Helmich of Susan Helmich Design. She has been a goldsmith and jewelry designer for over 50 years. Her work shows a passion for natural beauty, ancient art, and fine craftsmanship. Her pieces have been featured at the Smithsonian and recognized by groups like AGTA, WJA, and MJSA.
- Tracey Ellison, known as The Diamond Girl. She is a social media influencer with millions of followers on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook. Ellison has a keen eye for trends and a deep love for fine jewelry.
- Veronica Guarino of Louis Anthony Jewelers. She leads marketing and retail strategy for the family business, which she co-founded with Louis A. Guarino Jr. in 1990. Her focus is on curating elegant, wearable designs and enhancing the customer experience.
- Louis A. Guarino Jr. of Louis Anthony Jewelers. He is a graduate gemologist with more than 40 years of experience. His global sourcing expertise helps him recognize true artistry and market appeal in jewelry.
- Magdalena Hess, founder of the Jose Hess Design Awards and wife of Jose Hess. She is an award-winning designer and Jose’s longtime creative partner. She now leads the awards program to continue their shared legacy of design excellence.
