A woman in Colorado Springs has expressed deep gratitude to local police officers after they recovered family heirloom jewelry that was allegedly stolen by her former partner.
The woman contacted the Colorado Springs Police Department on Sunday morning. She reported a burglary at her apartment near East Woodmen Road and Targa Drive. Among the stolen items was jewelry that had been in her family for generations. Though the pieces were valuable, the woman said their emotional worth was far greater.
Police quickly identified the woman’s ex-partner as the suspect.
“Officers diligently investigated this reported incident and, the following day, developed sufficient information to obtain an arrest warrant for the suspect and a search warrant for his residence,” said a CSPD lieutenant.
On Monday, police executed the search warrant. They say they recovered all the stolen items, including the heirloom jewelry.
“Officers were able to peacefully arrest the suspect and located all of the items taken from the victim, most importantly, her heirloom jewelry. These items were all able to be returned to the victim the same day,” the lieutenant added.
As of Tuesday morning, online jail records show the suspect, Nathan Stubblefield, remains in the El Paso County jail without bond.
The woman publicly praised the officers for their fast work and support.
“She was extremely thankful to all of the officers who assisted in this investigation and the recovery of her belongings that had such significant sentimental value,” the lieutenant said.
