The International Gemological Institute (IGI) has announced the appointment of Anoop Mehta as its new Chairman and Independent Director, pending shareholder approval. Mehta, a respected leader in the diamond industry with over 50 years of experience, is set to lead IGI into its next phase of growth.
Mehta brings a wealth of expertise from both the Indian and international gem and jewellery sectors. He is the Chairman and Managing Director of Mohit Diamonds Pvt. Ltd. and has served as President of the Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB). His contributions have been key in shaping India’s diamond export infrastructure and boosting its global standing.

This strategic move underscores IGI’s dedication to upholding excellence, transparency, and ethical leadership in the certification of diamonds and gemstones. As a well-established certification authority, IGI views Mehta’s appointment as a step towards aligning its governance with industry best practices and future-focused strategies.

A History of Industry Impact
Mehta’s impact on the Indian diamond industry is significant. He played a pivotal role in the creation of the Bharat Diamond Bourse, which opened in 2010 and has become one of the world’s largest diamond trading hubs. Over the years, his work has earned him multiple Lifetime Achievement Awards, including one from the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC).
