Two women were caught red-handed on Saturday night while attempting to steal gold jewellery from a shop in Nagerbazar.
According to the shop owner, the women entered the store posing as customers. While an employee was busy fetching more items for them, the duo allegedly hid two gold rings and a locket.
Despite being shown several pieces, the women claimed they didn’t like any of them. Their behaviour raised suspicion. The employee, sensing something was wrong, engaged them in conversation while secretly reviewing CCTV footage.
The footage revealed one of the women allegedly hiding the jewellery inside her clothes. The store staff immediately alerted the police.
Officers arrived at the scene shortly after and detained the two women. The stolen jewellery was recovered from them, and both were arrested on theft charges.
Police said stealing jewellery while pretending to shop is a common method used by criminals. Investigators are now looking into whether the suspects are linked to a larger theft ring.
