Canary yellow is a color full of life and energy. For Filipino designer Mark Bumgarner, it was the perfect choice for Pia Wurtzbach’s look at BVLGARI’s high jewelry gala in Sicily. The event celebrated the launch of BVLGARI’s latest collection, Polychroma, which is known for its bold colors and striking designs.
Bumgarner explained that the BVLGARI gala is a key event for both the brand and Pia. “When designing her outfit, I wanted to capture the spirit of the Polychroma collection,” he said. This collection highlights vibrant colors and unique shapes.
The main idea behind the design was contrast. The bright yellow silk dress stood out against the deep green emeralds in the jewelry. Bumgarner chose canary yellow for two reasons. First, he believed the color would look stunning on Pia. Second, it matched the rich emerald tones in the Polychroma collection.
The dress was both electric and elegant. It featured an asymmetric off-shoulder neckline and smooth draping along a sleek silhouette. “The design was kept simple,” Bumgarner said, “so Pia and the jewelry would both stand out.”
Although BVLGARI often uses elaborate styles, Bumgarner took a more subtle approach. He wanted Pia to appear bold but also refined. “I let the color be the main statement. The clean lines of the dress and the striking canary yellow, combined with the beautiful jewelry, created drama without overwhelming her,” he added.
At a gala known for its vibrant and excessive use of color, Pia Wurtzbach’s look stood out for its elegance and harmony. Her canary yellow dress perfectly reflected the lively spirit of Polychroma. It was a glowing moment full of purpose.
