Luxury jewellery house Chopard has revealed its latest high jewellery collection, Insofu, showcasing a rare emerald of extraordinary size and beauty. The centrepiece of the collection is a 6,225-carat rough emerald, named “Insofu”—meaning “elephant” in Zambia’s Bemba language. This unveiling marks a major moment in the world of fine jewellery, where sourcing large, high-quality emeralds has become increasingly rare.
What makes the Insofu Collection even more remarkable is Chopard’s commitment to sustainability and transparency. By acquiring the raw emerald directly from Gemfields, a mining company known for responsible practices, Chopard has ensured full traceability of the gemstone—from the mine in Zambia to the final jewellery pieces.
This approach allows Chopard to support local communities through initiatives focused on education, healthcare, and wildlife conservation. It also guarantees that ethical standards are maintained throughout the entire production process.
Caroline Scheufele, co-president and artistic director of Chopard, emphasized the emotional and natural value of the stones. “In every stone lies a story,” she said. “My role is to listen and honour the natural magic they carry as treasures from the Earth.”
Unlike diamonds, which can be evaluated more accurately before cutting, emeralds are unpredictable. Their internal fractures often make cutting a risky process. A mistake can lead to large losses. Because of this, Chopard worked with expert gem-cutters for an entire year to study the Insofu emerald before deciding how to cut it.
This careful process produced 850 carats of gem-quality emeralds. The first set of jewellery from the collection was launched during Oscars week in 2024 in collaboration with actress Julia Roberts. It included a necklace, earrings, and a ring.
Chopard has now revealed the next phase of the Insofu Collection. It features 15 new pieces: five pairs of earrings, four necklaces, three rings, one bracelet, and a jewellery watch. All items are crafted from 100% ethical gold and include diamonds, pink sapphires, and pearls.
The designs are inspired by the beauty of nature, abstract forms, and the elegance of the art deco era. Each piece reflects Chopard’s artistic vision and ethical values, combining exceptional craftsmanship with a strong message of environmental and social responsibility.
