Whispering Wires, a jewelry and discount store in downtown Sauk Rapids, will close at the end of May. The store has been open for six months.
Owner Lori Schei announced the closure on May 8. She said the decision came from “circumstances beyond our control.” Whispering Wires opened in December at 113 Division Street.
Although the store is closing, Schei plans to keep selling her jewelry online and at craft shows. She started her business at these events before opening the shop.
Schei makes handmade jewelry. She often works with wires and colorful stones. Besides selling at Whispering Wires, she also sells at local fairs and community events.
Schei said these local fairs are very important to her business. She enjoys seeing many repeat customers.
“We are always at the community center here; we are doing the VFW,” Schei said. “That part of me is never going to change; I love people.”
Whispering Wires also sells clothes, home decor, children’s toys, and supplies like chargers, mixing bowls, and diapers.
Before closing on May 31, Schei will hold a liquidation sale. Deals include items priced at $5 and a 20% discount on everything over $5.
