Indian watchmaker and jeweller Titan announced on Thursday that its Managing Director and CEO, C. K. Venkataraman, will retire at the end of the year after more than 30 years with the company. He will be succeeded by Ajoy Chawla, the current head of Titan’s jewellery division.
Venkataraman joined Titan in 1990 and became CEO in 2019. Chawla, who took over as CEO of the jewellery division in the same year, has overseen significant growth. Under his leadership, the division, which includes the popular ‘Tanishq’ and ‘Mia’ brands, has seen a 2.5-fold increase in both sales and profits.
Chawla has spent three decades with Titan, holding various roles across commercial, sales, retailing, and supply chain management, according to his LinkedIn profile.
In its most recent financial report, Titan’s jewellery segment, which is the largest contributor to the company’s revenue, recorded a 25% increase in sales in the fourth quarter. This growth was driven by higher demand for premium jewellery and investment-grade gold coins.
For the same quarter, Titan’s consolidated revenue grew by 22.5%, and its net profit rose nearly 13%.
Chawla is set to officially take over as CEO on January 1, 2026. Titan has not yet announced a replacement for his current role as head of the jewellery division.
