Asia Olieman, a former attorney based in Philadelphia, has turned her creative passion into a successful handcrafted jewelry brand, Pretty Weird. The brand offers one-of-a-kind pieces that mix sentiment, nostalgia, and artistic flair, all handmade by Olieman herself.
Leaving behind her legal career, Olieman followed her artistic dreams and developed collections that reflect both her craftsmanship and her Philly roots. Each piece is carefully crafted using various techniques, including soldering, forging, hand-engraving, sculpting in polymer clay, and painting with gouache, all sealed in resin for durability.
“I left the law to chase the chaos that made me feel alive,” says Olieman. “I make jewelry that’s forged with fire, made with care, and rooted in memory—Philly memories, childhood memories, mama memories. Some pieces are bold, some are soft, but they’re all deeply personal.”
Pretty Weird’s collections currently include the Philly Phanatic Jewelry line, featuring hand-painted and silver-forged items celebrating the city’s famous mascot; Snack Attack, which showcases food-inspired, hand-sculpted designs; and Little Ladies, which incorporates real preserved ladybugs. Olieman also plans to launch two new collections—Electric Summer and Zero Gravity—featuring neon bolt studs, jawbreaker rings, and cosmic-inspired pieces.
Customers consistently praise Pretty Weird for its high-quality, unique designs and exceptional customer service. One customer, Mindie, shared, “The cutest pair of earrings! The owner was so kind, and when I had a question, she replied within hours! The earrings are a great addition to any outfit and a fabulous conversation starter.”
Each piece is created in micro-batches or limited editions using sterling silver, steel, resin, enamel, gouache paint, polymer clay, and real preserved elements. This ensures that every item maintains its unique character and craftsmanship.
