Australian high jeweler Margot McKinney has opened her first standalone boutique in the United States. The new store is located inside the luxury Peninsula Beverly Hills hotel and marks a major step in the brand’s global expansion.
McKinney’s U.S. presence began earlier this year. In February, she launched a pop-up at Bergdorf Goodman in New York. In May, she showcased her work at TEFAF Maastricht, one of the world’s leading fairs for art, design, and antiques, held in the Netherlands.
Though her name has gained more visibility recently, McKinney is well-known in elite jewelry circles. She is a fourth-generation jeweler, recognized for her bold, luxurious designs and her strong charitable work. Her contributions to art and culture earned her the United Kingdom’s Royal “Order of Merit.”
Since 2007, McKinney’s pieces have been available at select Neiman Marcus stores and at Bergdorf Goodman. But this new boutique marks her first permanent space outside her flagship store, “The Green Door,” in Queensland, Australia.
“This is a milestone moment in the 141-year history of the McKinney family business,” McKinney said. “It’s a thrill to open my first independent store outside of Australia, and it’s an honor to do so in the iconic Peninsula Beverly Hills. I couldn’t imagine a more fitting place to share my jewelry with new collectors.”
The interior of the boutique is rich in detail and personality. McKinney’s signature “Kelly Green” lacquer finishes the cabinetry and trim. The space features a mix of antique and modern furniture. A gold-accented dome ceiling adds elegance above leopard-print chairs, a restored sky-blue antique desk, mirrored sconces, and teal wallpaper with birds and botanical motifs.
McKinney said the space was designed to reflect the luxurious style of The Peninsula hotel while highlighting her unique aesthetic.
Several of McKinney’s most important pieces are on display. One standout is the Marina collier, which debuted at TEFAF Maastricht. This striking piece includes a 241.14-carat cushion-cut green beryl and a large baroque pearl suspended from a 65.72-carat aquamarine. It also features green tourmaline, diamonds, South Sea pearls, sapphires, Paraiba tourmalines, aquamarines, and tsavorites.
McKinney is best known for her statement jewelry made from exceptional pearls and gemstones. She uses only South Sea pearls, which are among the most prized in the world. Each year, she buys the entire harvest from a single pearl farmer, Aji Ellies Wimilirantna. Her designs also feature Australian opals, diamonds, sapphires, and tanzanites.
She said the boutique offers a curated introduction to her full collection for those unfamiliar with her work.
The Margot McKinney boutique at The Peninsula Beverly Hills is now open daily to the public.
