Daniel Arsham continues to be a prominent figure in Tiffany & Co.’s modern narrative. His ongoing partnership with the luxury brand is not just about collaboration but a testament to his integral role within the house’s creative journey. Arsham has been part of several high-profile Tiffany events, such as his bespoke statue at the Saatchi Gallery exhibit and the installation of another statue at Tiffany’s revamped flagship on Fifth Avenue.
Their latest project marks another milestone in a long-standing creative bond. Arsham refers to this new piece as a “continuation” of their shared legacy, which began in 2021 with the unveiling of an eroded Blue Box and expanded with unique creations such as artist toolboxes, gilded Poké Balls, and reimagined Tiffany bracelets.
This new work, however, draws more from the past. The centerpiece of their 2025 collaboration is the Arsham Studio for Tiffany & Co. Bronze Eroded Penny Vessel. The piece serves as both a tribute to history and a fresh artistic perspective.
Tiffany & Co.’s legacy with currency design traces back to 1885 when Louis Comfort Tiffany redesigned the Great Seal of the United States, which appears on the back of American currency. This deep connection to American culture aligns perfectly with Arsham’s work, which often celebrates the beauty in everyday objects, such as the humble penny. Arsham’s earlier Study of the Eroded Penny from over a decade ago set the stage for this Tiffany partnership.
The inspiration for this piece, Arsham explains, came from Tiffany’s historical involvement in currency projects with the U.S. Mint. “I went back into the archives and discovered Tiffany’s work on currency designs from the 19th century,” says Arsham. This connection to Tiffany’s rich history, paired with his own artistic vision, created the perfect foundation for the new collaboration.
The sculptures are not just artistic renderings of a penny. The 39 “patinated bronze vessels,” as described by Tiffany, each contain an exclusive Tiffany & Arsham Studio HardWear necklace. These necklaces are crafted from 18k white gold, set with over six carats of diamonds and more than 500 tsavorites, which provide a subtle nod to both Arsham’s signature green and the patina of the bronze pennies. The design of the necklaces is rooted in Tiffany’s classic HardWear style, taking inspiration from a necklace designed in 1962.
This collaboration is not just a celebration of Tiffany’s past but also of its future, with Arsham playing a key role in its modern transformation. As Arsham puts it, “With a lot of my life outlook and the way that I think about things, I’m always trying to manifest luck in my work. The idea of a lucky penny resonated with me.”
Together, Arsham and Tiffany continue to bridge history with innovation, crafting pieces that are both artistic statements and timeless symbols.
