The Lebanon Township Museum will celebrate the start of summer with a hands-on craft workshop for adults on Tuesday, June 24. Participants will learn how to make oyster shell jewelry dishes in a class held from 10 a.m. to noon at the museum, located at 57 Musconetcong River Road.
The class takes inspiration from colonial times, when oyster shells served many purposes beyond food. Colonists used the shells to make lime, a key ingredient in whitewash, plaster, and mortar. Oyster shells also played a role in early farming and were often used in ceramic and clay production.
The workshop offers attendees a chance to explore history through creativity while making their own decorative keepsakes.
